And Exhale

Bryony Hazel Randall is a performer and theatre maker. In the past year, she played roles including Desdemona and Juliet with BUDCo, and was delighted to perform in Golden Bricks and Ruby Shoes at the Accidental Theatre. Bryony first got involved with Terra Nova Productions in 2016, volunteering with costume, and featured as a fairy in their 2019 rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She is studying her Musical Theatre BA in Newcastle.

Bryony describes this artwork as a piece of auditory theatre which takes a closer look at mental health by diving inside the mind. Recorded in English, Hungarian and Spanish, translated by fellow cohort member Katie Varga. We ask you to take a quiet moment to experience this piece.

"In a global event which has sequestered many from their loved ones, it is hard to quiet the mind. I have found my own world condensed into the confines of my brain, away from the physical, and that is where my theatre now plays out.

A meditation. Our thinker spills thoughts from three timelines and languages - Hungarian, recounts past events; Spanish, representing the advice of a friend; and English, attempting to re-organize memory. I was inspired by Boal’s cop in the head, where external barriers become internalised, and explored where contradictory barriers co-exist.

How do we listen to those voices? Here that is framed literally, with a choice between perspectives."
