Arts Council and Belfast City Council Fund Collaboration with China

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has awarded Lottery funding to Terra Nova Productions to work with Chung Ying Theatre of Hong Kong on Phase 2 of the Jared Diamond Project - a bilingual English/Cantonese theatre project for production in November 2011.

A script and animation short are currently in development, and the company is in dialogue with scientists from Queens University, Belfast.

A May workshop saw Northern Irish arists working with colleagues from Hong Kong, London, Macau, Germany, Canada and the USA. Theatre, film, animation, puppetry and sound design expertise all featured.

The workshop builds on independent development that place at the Forest Hill Space in London in Nov 2009 and brought together artists from Hong Kong, Macau, Northern Ireland and across the UK.

Funding has also been secured from Belfast City Council for Belfast-based community workshops and focus groups linked to the project in 2010.

MLA Anna Lo becomes Terra Nova Productions' Patron

Anna Lo has formally accepted the Company's request to become their patron.  Says Anna Lo:

I am delighted to be asked to be the patron of Terra Nova Productions.  It is a theatre company with an ambition to do bold, exciting and positive things in Northern Ireland and the World, and I respect that.

Terra Nova’s vision “to put the wonder back into the world we all share” and their ethos of reaching out to the world and of bringing people together from across different cultures to make theatre is very important to a healthy mature society.
