Artistic Director & CREATIVE Producer - Andrea Montgomery
Company Founder Andrea Montgomery is a bilingual Canadian writer and director who has directed more than theatre 50 productions across the UK, Europe, Asia and the middle East. Born in Delhi, the daughter of Canadian diplomats, she grew up in Bangkok, Ottawa, Geneva, and Jakarta.
After training in Canada as a specialist in Shakespeare and Japanese 18th century drama, Andrea set up and ran her own award-winning theatre company in London in the early 90s. Moving to work for producer Julius Green, she ran a seven show season in Edinburgh in 1999, a range of number-one touring and a West End production before taking up post as Chief Executive of the Palace Theatre, Westcliff. Continuing to write and direct, Andrea moved to Northern Ireland in 2002 as the Artistic Director of the Riverside Theatre. While there she was a founder member and of the five-venue regional collective ART-NI, producing Philadelphia, Here I Come! She co-produced and co-directed work with colleagues from the USA, Namibia, Hong Kong, and the Republic of Ireland.
Andrea is an experienced international consultant and has worked in France, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Iran and across the UK. Clients include Ulster and Leinster Rugby Teams, the Royal Albert Hall, the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, the Tate Modern and the London Eye, the Scottish National Science Centre, and the Royal National Museum of Science and Industry, as well as a range of City firms and international charities.
Since setting up Terra Nova Productions ten years ago, Andrea has worked with international colleagues to make work in Hong Kong, Macau, London, Tehran, Vancouver and Nuuk. Her work for Terra Nova includes The Ulster Kama Sutra which she co-wrote and directed, developing and directing 10 short plays for our Arrivals and Arrivals2 projects, and writing the script for Terra Nova's Arrivals3D production, Mi Mundo. She also adapted the script and directed the professional cast of the Belfast Tempest.
Andrea regularly freelances, and has directed extensively for Theatre at the Mill, Red Brick Road Productions, and a range of productions for independent Northern Irish artists.
Company Manager & CReative producer - Tom Finlay
Tom graduated Queens University, Belfast with a BA(Hons) in Drama during 2001. Since then he has worked as a theatre producer, director, writer and art manger in both professional theatre and community arts organisations. These organisations include, Terra Nova Productions, Belfast Exposed, Gambit Theatre Company, DramaLab, Kaleidoscope Dance Company, The Rainbow Factory, UAYD, NYT and Newtownabbey Borough Council. During this time he has produced, written and directed over 40 theatre productions. He was the Artistic Director of the Rainbow Factory, school of performing arts from 2002 - 2012.
As an innovative community arts coordinator he has worked with Terra Nova, The Rainbow Factory and Belfast Exposed to redesign their community engagement departments developing and creating cutting edge arts programmes. These programmes include classical and devised theatre productions, youth arts festivals, community arts festivals, issue-based theatre outreach programmes, issue based touring productions photography training, photography outreach programmes, youth worker training programmes and Northern Irelands first apprenticeship training programme.
In 2012 he published 'The Nucleus Model of participatory youth arts practice' a tool for youth theatre and youth arts organisations.
Tom joined Terra Nova three years ago. He has directed the Masque and Storm elements of the Belfast Tempest, Terra Nova's Mi Mundo production in early 2016, and in 2017. He has represented the company at Tandem Shaml development programme in Lebanon, Berlin, Amman, and Marseilles and with Tandem funding is piloting a community project with partner Beshoy in Menya Egypt & Belfast.
