8-to-create Multicultural Scripts
8 Northern Irish writers, 8 members of Northern Ireland's multicultural communities and 8 multicultural professional actors create 8 new multicultural one-act scripts. Terra Nova Productions is looking for venue, artistic & community partners for this new script development project in 2012-2013.
The aim of the project is to introduce both emerging and successful Northern Irish writers to professional multicultural actors and representatives of Northern Ireland's multicultural communities in order to promote the telling of diverse stories on stage and screen. The development workshop will be spread across two weekends, with 8 weeks writing time in between.
Writers will be asked to produce a work of between 10 and 30 minutes in length, inspired by the first weekend’s shared exploration. Following production of a first draft, writers will receive script-editing support and one script meeting.
During the second weekend, the professional actors & community members will workshop the scripts led by Terra Nova’s Artistic Director Andrea Montgomery. Northern Irish theatre community figures & colleagues from Terra Nova’s work in multicultural communities will be invited to meet participants, hear one/two pieces (as selected by the all 24 workshop participants) and provide feedback. The principal aim of this session is to network, building linkages that can lead to the staging of multiculturally-themed work.
Community members will be selected through our on-going links to groups across Northern Ireland. Interested writers will asked to submit a letter and sample of their work, and will be chosen by the TNP AD and a panel of colleagues/partners (TBC).
TNP aims to select one script for further development through to production in 2013-2014. We would seek right of first refusal, but are happy to negotiate with partner organizations as the aim is to see multi-culturally themed work on stages across Northern Ireland.
